The young warrior tore into the ranks of ghouls, rotting piles of decaying flesh quickly ringing him. The vampires didn't hesitate to join the battle when the ghouls thinned. They kept him occupied attacking from all sides at once while more undead monstrosities gathered to charge. Freki destroyed a few vampires during each assualt and demolished countless skeletal and ghoulish beasts.
Finally, Freki stood alone in the center of a reeking landscape of ruined flesh. He left the village feeling more hopeless than he had ever been in his life. He pressed on to the next clan and found their normal homes abandoned. Freki even travelled to their hidden retreat and found no evidence they had been there in many days. Such it was for the next two clans he travelled to find.
On reaching the lands of a fourth clan and finding them all dead, children and warriors alike, spread across a field, Freki decided to return to his clan and defend them until his end. His dreams of leading warriors against the dragons and living his days in the sunlight were defeated. His small clan could probably survive for some time hiding in the mountains, hoping RendGrave would never find them. What he had hoped to end, now was multiplied by the direct attention of an ancient and vicious dragon.

Freki found the Rholth living in the foothills of the eastern barrier mountains. They rejoiced at the sight of him and asked him of any news. When he told of the sights he had seen the clansmen were silent for a moment remembering the dead, but quickly they recovered and dragged him to the crest of the hill. Freki discovered at least six other clans had moved here to join the Rholth against RendGrave. The dragon's rage had already destroyed two clans, the others knew they would have to fight to survive.
Freki walked among the gathered clans and found they all warmly welcomed him as a hero and invited him to join them at a feast in his honor. Freki felt as though he was responsible for the predicament all the clans faced. Seeing the look in his face, one of the clan leaders spoke up telling him that the dragon was a menace to them all before Freki defied RendGrave. All the clans had lived in fear, now they had hope and Freki had given it to them. For that alone he was a hero.
The feast in Freki's honor was attended by every member of every clan and lasted well into the night. At dawn, the last of the revelers wandered off to sleep. Freki was among them, he had sipped 'viess all night and kept to himself, though everyone had to clap him on the shoulder and offer him a drink.
