Klownies
Small
creatures resembling diminuative elves, the Klownies are relatives of
both the Killmoulli and Brownies. The happily settle creatures live in
castles and large manors taking care of the drudgery with glee. All
they ask is a small portion of what they grow and prepare, as well as
the use of a chamber or two for their habitation. The fey transform
their living quarters into a multi-level apartment housing for the
clan, which usually numbers over a hundred. The odd creatures are
notoriously friendly and eternally happy, unless their simple request
for a thankful attitude for their service is ignored. They will uproot
once they consider themselves unwelcome, but require a suitable place
to relocate, often sending a scout or representative to negotiate the
terms of service. Few turn away the helpful fey, their impeccable
attention to the details of cooking, cleaning, farming, repairing
household equipment, care of stables, and tending farm animals is
unmatched. They are an asset to any household large enough to
accommodate them.
Few believe in the klownies, since such selfless service
is unheard of among the flighty fey, but their existence is fact, as
attested by the few manors and keeps near Edgewood that reap the
benefits of the tiny helpers. Almost nothing of the origins of the
klownies is known, even they ave no real idea where they came from. The
oldest among them tell of the merging of a clan of brownies and a
family of killmoulli that birthed the first klownie. A likely story
since they do look like a perfect mixture of the two, but neither the
brownies nor the killmoulli admit any such instance.
The magic shared by all klownies allows them to complete
their chosen chores with little trouble. Telekinesis, levitation,
charming animals and mend spells isn't the limit of their abilities,
but provides the bulk of the daily magic. Invisibility, dust devils and
hold spells take care of intruders, predatory beasts, and light
dusting. Animated brooms, mops and dusters are common sights in a house
kept by klownies, along with invisible servants and floating serving
dishes.
The klownies' love for their land and benefactors is
limitless. They honestly love the work they do and the opportunity to
look after an affluent family or good aligned group is too much to pass
up. Their white skin blends in nowhere, and the shades of bright hair
that are common among the klownies leaves them nowhere to hide, since
their invisibility is for a limited duration. The green or blue eyes
often match their hair, but are usually a darker shade of the same
color, giving them a striking look. The name of the creatures is a joke
they seem not to get or do not find funny, but they wear brightly
adorned clothes and resemble tiny clowns. Woe to the fool that tells
them so, for they lose their jolly demeanor instantly and usually the
offending person finds himself teleported into a precarious position
atop a high peak or in a bear's den.

Elflings
The elflings are not a mixture of elves and halflings as
many have theorized. They are in fact relatives of the fey and elves.
Elves that have too much contact with the fey have been known to go
"wild." These nature-loving elves are much different than the wild
sylvan elves. The ones who go wild often find themselves among the fey
for centuries, many have children while they are in the company of the
fey. These children are often elflings.
Elflings have no separate language or culture. They are
simply fey who have a lifespan. Many become jealous of the eternal
lives of their kin, and though they outlive their elven counterparts,
the knowledge of impending doom drives them to evil. Not all elflings
turn evil, many remain with the fey until the end of their days. Some
are born to the evil fey and suffer even greater risk of becoming
darklings.
The elflings and darklings are almost indistinguishable
from one another, but the smile of a elfling is full of child-like
wonder and true glee, while the smile of a darkling is full of hate and
malice. By looks and features alone, one can never be certain. Elflings
of evil descent have been reported as have darklings of good
upbringing. It seems to be a conscious decision on the part of the
half-breed.
That the fey were fertile, no one questioned, but few
would believe they could really be fertile enough to break into the
genetics of the elves, a long tested strain of genes that has had
little mixing. This must be true, for as a half-elf is possible due to
the original genetics of the two races having once been the same, so
must a half-fey be possible since that is the strain closest to the
changed genes of the elves.
The magic of the Elflings and Darklings is difficult to
catalog since they come from various strains who each have their own
set
of powers. Few Elflings can fly, but those born to dark elves have the
ability to levitate. All elflings and their counterparts can become
invisible at will. The fey are separated by their natures and
abilities, so too are the Elflings. A complete listing of all possible
mixes would be too extensive and only give a general idea as to the
powers of any one elfling or darkling.
